Transitions afoot at CJFE

We want to share some exciting updates at CJFE. We have a new Executive Director, Tom Henheffer, and Laura Tribe has joined the CJFE team in the new position of National Programs Coordinator. After 10 years in her role as famed CJFE manager, Julie Payne is moving on. She is looking forward to dividing her time between freelance projects and her young daughter. Annie Game, while still in the office, will now be working exclusively as Executive Director for IFEX.

With two years experience working with CJFE, Laura is a familiar face and a welcome addition in her new role. Tom Henheffer is new to CJFE, and along with a great interest in freedom of expression and the work of our organisation he brings skills and experience on a number of fronts, all of which will go towards making a great contribution to the strategic direction of CJFE. Tom is a New Brunswick native and studied at St. Thomas University, majoring in journalism (specializing in television and print) and human rights. He has worked as a staff reporter as well as a videographer at Maclean’s Magazine, writing features, managing teams of people and successfully launching a webTV program from scratch. He currently works at the Toronto Star as Small Business Publishing lead, which includes working on community and social media engagement, networking with members and public speaking. This is just the tip of the iceberg, so we are very fortunate to have him on the team and look forward to working with him.

You can find out more when Tom starts in the office on October 21. Julie will spend three days in the office with him, showing him the ropes and sharing the secrets, and then the following week she will move to working 16 hours a week, mainly from home and focused on keeping the Gala on track and wrapping it up at the end of December. The board wishes to thank Julie for all her work and direction at CJFE; she will certainly be missed, but she assures us that she is just a phone call away!
