CJFE and PEN Canada present Advance Screening of A Mighty Heart

Monday, June 18, 2007
Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) and PEN Canada will present an exclusive screening of the film, "A Mighty Heart" based on the life of journalists Daniel and Marianne Pearl on Thursday, June 21, 2007. On January 23, 2002, Daniel Pearl, South Asia bureau chief for The Wall Street Journal, was abducted while on his way to an interview in downtown Karachi, Pakistan. He was murdered not long after. His wife, Marianne Pearl, who was six months pregnant at the time, wrote the book on which the film is based, as a testament to Daniel's spirit, and to introduce her son to the father he would never meet. CJFE and PEN work to protect writers and journalists around the world who face persecution, attacks and murder. Proceeds from tonight's screening will go to support the work of the two organisations.
