CJFE Honoured by Vital People Grant from the Toronto Community Foundation (Toronto, July 20, 2011) Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) is honoured to have received recognition and valuable support from the Toronto Community Foundation (TCF). On June 22, 2011, Julie Payne, Manager of Canadian Journalists for Free Expression, was honoured for her receipt of a Vital People grant awarded by the Toronto Community Foundation. Vital People recognizes individuals who take initiative, make a contribution, and demonstrate leadership through their work at a not-for-profit organization. The awards were distributed at the Toronto Community Foundation’s annual Vital Toronto event, recognizing the achievements of a remarkable group of people and organizations who are working to make Toronto an even better city. Vital Toronto was hosted by Matt Galloway at CBC’s Glenn Gould Studio. Accepting the award on behalf of Julie Payne was CJFE Executive Director Annie Game. "The support from the TCF made it possible for Julie Payne to attend the biennial IFEX general meeting held in Beirut," said Annie Game. "It was an amazing opportunity for her to meet with free expression colleagues from around the world, collaborate on program planning and share information about the kind of work we are doing here in Toronto."
