  • Privacy and Digital Security at the Border

** The TMZ is wheelchair accessible. **

    About the workshop:

#OffAssignment Toronto invites you to a hands-on workshop on digital and operational security for journalists whose work involves crossing borders. In recent years, we’ve seen a shift in attitudes and practices at international border crossings. Authorities are more frequently searching and seizing the digital devices we use to do our work, exposing us (and our sources) to ever greater invasions of privacy.

In this interactive session, Harlo Holmes from the Freedom of the Press Foundation will walk participants through common scenarios and threat models faced by journalists, researchers, filmmakers and others who engage in similar high-risk work. We’ll learn how to work more securely, how to protect our data, and how to keep our sources, colleagues, and communities safer. Entrance is free, but space is limited -- please RSVP here.

    About the presenter:

Harlo Holmes is a media scholar, a software programmer, and an activist. She is Director of Newsroom Digital Security at Freedom of the Press Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to supporting and advocating on behalf of public-interest journalism.

    About the series:

#OffAssignment Toronto is community-based organization that hosts workshops and talks for freelance journalists and independent media-makers in Toronto. Please contact us with any queries, comments, or hot tips:
