Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) is seeking applications for a 14-month maternity leave employment contract for the position of IFEX Campaigns and Advocacy Coordinator. IFEX is a network of 88 member organisations worldwide which defend and promote the right to free expression (www.ifex.org). The IFEX Secretariat is based in Toronto, where it is managed by IFEX member organisation CJFE (www.cjfe.org). IFEX's Campaigns and Advocacy Programme aims to significantly increase IFEX impact through collaborative campaigning and advocacy initiatives on free expression issues of national, regional and global significance. Job purpose: Working in a team your role would be to support IFEX’s overall campaigns and advocacy goals by implementing, promoting and reporting on campaign initiatives and tools; liaising with IFEX members and supporting IFEX member’s existing campaigns; and preparing and creating support materials as required. This is primarily a project management role with the need for familiarity and experience with campaigns and advocacy tactics. Main duties and responsibilities of the Campaigns and Advocacy Coordinator: • Coordinate and implement all aspects of designated projects, including project agreements with partners, implementation plans, consultants, project budgets, as well as project evaluation and reporting • Provide support to IFEX coordinated campaigns and IFEX members’ existing and emerging campaigning initiatives, whether individual or joint, in consultation with relevant IFEX staff • Implement strategies for maximizing the effectiveness of campaigning activities using a wide variety of digital tools • Develop creative campaign features for IFEX website and social media • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with IFEX members and relevant human rights organisations • Other duties as required Experience, skills and qualifications: • University degree in related discipline, or equivalent experience; • 1-3 years’ experience in international project management; • Excellent oral and written communications skills in English - French, Spanish and/or Arabic an asset; • Solid understanding of human rights, freedom of expression and democratic development issues; • Knowledge of campaigning techniques; • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a variety of contexts; • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, strong attention to detail; • Familiarity/experience using a wide variety of digital tools and social media; • Writing and editing experience preferred; • Experience in organising and facilitating workshops and training events an asset • Experience working with NGOs, networks and/or coalitions an asset; • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
