December 10 2012 marks Human Rights Day, and the 64th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The theme of Human Rights Day 2012 is "My voice counts," putting a spotlight on the right for individuals to make their voices heard, especially in public life and political decision-making. We must not be complacent about our human rights, or take them for granted. Although today is an important day for celebrating our human rights, we also need remember to defend, protect, and celebrate them all year long. Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.
