2012 International Press Freedom Award winner Mae Azango reflects back on the year since last International Women’s Day when she published a piece about female genital cutting. The reaction to the piece was so extreme that she was forced to go into hiding for a month.
"Female circumcision that is considered a taboo subject in Liberia has and is still affecting many women and girls in the name of culture and tradition, of which many still fear to speak about in believe that they will die." - Mae Azango
