DUTIES/JOB DESCRIPTION:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small and dynamic team of professionals driving Canada’s number one free expression organization, working in concert with a board comprised of some of our country’s top journalists, lawyers and media professionals. The position is a full-time permanent position. Primary duties will include managing the CJFE website, overseeing social media and coordinating marketing and outreach initiatives, including member engagement/growth and advocacy and fundraising campaigns. The job will require close collaboration with our Development Coordinator and Campaigns and Advocacy Coordinator, and include some editing and posting of content for the CJFE website, assisting with the publication of CJFE’s annual Review of Free Expression in Canada, and coordinating logistics for the annual CJFE Gala: A Night to Honour Courageous Reporting. The employee will report to the CJFE Executive Director.

Duties include:

  • Increase CJFE’s social media reach and engagement, web traffic and website donations

  • Manage the CJFE website and the CJFE brand

  • Oversee all marketing initiatives, digital promotions and communications (press releases, emails, newsletters, etc.)

  • Monitor and report on CJFE’s online presence using tools including Google Analytics

  • Optimize digital advertising, such as Facebook and Twitter ads and Google Adwords

  • Design visual resources (quote cards, ads, flyers, etc.) as necessary

  • Develop strategies for amplifying CJFE’s voice based on market research on CJFE’s current and potential supporters

  • Ensure online and social media policies and guidelines are up-to-date, understood by all staff, and implemented appropriately

  • Manage the CJFE supporter database (NationBuilder)

  • Engage, onboard, and coordinate volunteers

  • Liaise with contractors, including programmers and digital advertising experts

  • Collaborate with the CJFE Campaigns and Advocacy Coordinator to coordinate public engagement campaigns on free expression issues

  • Work with the CJFE Editorial Coordinator to maintain content on CJFE’s website, including identifying creative ways to support the growth of the website

  • Work with the Development Coordinator to develop new ways to maximize revenue generation

  • Speak to media as required

  • Other duties as required

 

Experience, skills and qualifications:

  • 2-3 years experience coordinating websites and social media content

  • 2-3 years experience coordinating marketing and outreach initiatives

  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma in marketing, journalism, media studies, communications or other related field

  • Familiarity with web communications, web architecture and navigation, web design and web content strategies

  • Excellent writing and editing skills

  • Entrepreneurialism, drive and teamwork

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines

  • Interest in and awareness of current affairs, free expression, privacy and digital issues

  • Proficiency in photo editing software and experience creating visual resources

  • Web programming/development skills an asset

  • Proficiency in HTML and web editing an asset

  • Proficiency in video editing software an asset

  • Experience in database management (i.e. Salesforce, Nationbuilder) an asset

  • Experience with Google Adwords, Twitter and Facebook advertising an asset

  • Knowledge of Canadian Press Style an asset

  • Proficiency in French an asset

HOURS:

37.5 hours per week

REMUNERATION:

30,000 - 35,000 | Commensurate with experience
