IFEX FUNDRAISING / OUTREACH COORDINATOR

International Freedom of Expression eXchange (IFEX), managed by Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE)

Start date: June 2006

Application Deadline: 12 May 2006

The International Freedom of Expression eXchange (IFEX) is a network of 72 organizations worldwide that promote and defend the right to free expression. The IFEX Clearing House (or secretariat) is based in Toronto and managed by Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE), a member of IFEX.

When IFEX was founded in 1992, all but one of its 14 members was an international organization based in the North. Few free expression groups existed in developing countries and countries in transition, and those that did often worked in isolation, under extremely difficult conditions. IFEX’s Outreach Program was initiated in 1995 to support and help these vulnerable groups and to bring them into the IFEX family. IFEX has provided critical capacity-building assistance to more than 40 groups and today 60% of IFEX’s members are based in developing countries and countries in transition.

The IFEX Clearing House is seeking a Fundraising / Outreach Coordinator – to be based in Toronto, Canada – who has extensive experience working with NGOs and networks internationally, preferably in the human rights field. Project development and fundraising for IFEX programs is a key focus of this job.

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of project implementation, including communications with donor and project partners, managing project budgets and project staff/consultants, and project evaluation;

  • Coordinate Outreach workshops and training sessions where identified, including developing the agenda, and coordinating trainers and participants and logistical arrangements;
  • B: Network Development

  • Member Liaison and Development – including coordination and support to various IFEX committees, governance bodies and face-to-face meetings; assistance to prospective IFEX members; and regular communication with members regarding needs and priorities.
  • Represent IFEX at international meetings, as required.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years’ experience in international project development, fundraising and project management, including financial management and project evaluation

  • Understanding of human rights, freedom of expression and democratic development issues
