CJFE Presents Drawing Controversy: The Mohammed Cartoons
In commemoration of World Press Freedom Day
April 26, 2006
Three months after the Danish cartoon controversy flared up, tempers have calmed down, the protests have ended, and the story has
fallen out of the headlines. But what have we learned? What does the controversy mean for a multi-cultural, 'tolerant' country such

CJFE presents a panel of experts to discuss Islamic laws, political cartoons, free expression and the media's perspective on the
cartoons published by Jyllands-Posten.
What: Panel discussion "Drawing Controversy - the Mohammed Cartoons". Followed by Q&A

Background:World Press Freedom Day, May 3
World Press Freedom Day recognizes the sacrifices made in the struggle for freedom of the press and is a reminder that many
governments continue to deny their citizens this basic human right. The May 3 message is that journalists everywhere must be granted
the right to report freely and without fear.
CJFE is an association of more than 300 journalists, editors, publishers, producers, students and others who work to promote and
defend free expression and press freedom in Canada and around the world. For more information, contact Julie Payne at (416)
