CJFE marks International Day to End Impunity with documentary screening
about murdered Russian journalist

Post-screening Q&A with director Marina Goldovskaya and Madeline Ziniak

TORONTO, ON (November 12, 2012) – On November 22nd, Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) will honour the International Day to End Impunity (November 23) with a screening of A Bitter Taste of Freedom, a 2011 award-winning documentary about the life of murdered Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya.

Anna Politkovskaya, who became internationally known for her coverage of the Chechen conflict and her criticism of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, was assassinated in the elevator of her home in October 2006. Her murder remains unsolved.

Filmed and edited by Politkovskaya’s former journalism teacher and one of Russia’s most celebrated documentary-makers, Marina Goldovskaya, A Bitter Taste of Freedom documents the time leading up to Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya’s murder. The 80-minute film offers an intimate personal portrayal of Anna’s transformation into one of Russia’s most famous human rights activists and journalists.

Madeline Ziniak, National Vice-President of Rogers OMNI Television and Chair of the Canadian Ethnic Media Association, will host a Q&A after the screening with the film's director, Marina Goldovskaya.
