IFEX will be holding its biennial General Meeting and Strategy Conference in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This year’s meeting will be one of the largest to date, and is being co-hosted by IFEX member organization the Cambodian Center for Human Rights. The conference is comprised of two parts: the members-only General Meeting, and the Strategy Conference, which is open to non-IFEX member free expression advocates.

During the closed General Meeting (June 17-18, 2013), IFEX members will debate the network’s emerging issues, generate strategies, plan joint activities and benefit from each others’ diversity of experiences and expertise.

The IFEX Strategy Conference (June 19-20, 2013) will allow freedom of expression actors and organizations from around the globe to network, exchange skills, forge new alliances, gain first-hand insight into priority issues in the region, and identify new ways of working together.

The Strategy Conference seeks to brainstorm means of overcoming obstacles to defending and promoting free expression around the world. It will open with an overview of Southeast Asia—an opportunity to hear from key regional freedom of expression defenders—and will close on 20 June with a concert featuring the band Cambodian Space Project. Featured workshops will focus on a variety of topics, ranging from how to effectively use social media, to introducing new digital tools, to exploring how to create a strong communications strategy.

The most valuable part of this conference is its bringing together of diverse voices on free expression from around the world, creating a vibrant and fruitful dialogue. For this reason, while registration is now unfortunately closed, we encourage you to follow the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #IFEX13.
