#FollowFriday: Voices of Freedom

By Kirsten Hering

After the amazing week we’ve had at CJFE, it seems only appropriate that our #FollowFriday goes out to everyone involved in making Wednesday’s Ai Weiwei: Voices of Freedom event at the Art Gallery of Ontario such a success. Specifically, we would like to recognize each of the performers, our host Anna Maria Tremonti, the AGO, Cheryl Hawkes, and Henry’s.

If you weren’t lucky enough to attend our event, be sure to visit our live blog, which captured the tweets and pictures taken throughout the evening – we even had a few retweets from Ai Weiwei himself!

I also recommend checking out our photo gallery to view photos that participants took with our exclusive life size cut-out of Ai Weiwei (he took the photo especially for the event!). This entire photo campaign was made possible by the generous contributions of Henry’s.

Ai Weiwei

Of course, we couldn’t have put on this event without the inspiration of Ai Weiwei himself. Although he was unable to attend the event in person, he was definitely there in spirit (and on Twitter). At this point, I think he needs little introduction. But if you’re looking for more insight on this powerful dissident artist, I highly recommend our article 10 things you may not know about Ai Weiwei.

Our incredible performers

We really can’t thank our performers enough for their generous contributions. Their powerful performances showed their creativity and passion for free expression and made for an inspiring evening. It was clear to see that these individuals have serious talent, and are definitely people to watch!
