By Laura Tribe Canadians John Greyson, a filmmaker and York University professor, and Tarek Loubani, an emergency room physician, have been in detention in Egypt since approximately 4 p.m. EDT on Friday, August 16, 2013. The pair called a friend in Canada, Justin Podur, to notify him as they were being arrested. It has been reported that Greyson and Loubani were originally en route to Gaza, but were held up in Egypt as they found the border closed. The Canadian consulate has confirmed that they have visited the pair in detention, but the exact charges against the men remain unclear. CJFE will continue to follow the situation as it develops.
