  • Newsletter: September 2014

    Dear CJFE members and supporters,

This week has been a difficult one at CJFE. Bob Carty, a member of CJFE’s Board of Directors, Canadian Issues Committee, and long-time supporter of the organization, passed away this past Sunday, September 22. We have lost an incredible friend, colleague, journalist and activist.

  • CJFE mourns the loss of free expression defender Bob Carty

Yesterday Canada lost one of its strongest defenders of free expression and press freedom.

CJFE Board member Bob Carty, a journalist and activist with a tireless dedication to human rights, passed away on Sunday, September 22, in an Ottawa hospital.

“Bob was an inspiration, mentor, and visionary to many journalists and activists across the country,” says CJFE President Arnold Amber. “His work will leave a lasting legacy.”

  • Goodbye, farewell, and come back soon!

As our Canadian summer is quickly disappearing, so are CJFE’s amazing interns! Today marks the last day in the office for Diane Shnier, our Outreach and Communications Assistant and last summer intern standing.

From the moment she stepped into the office, Diane has been an amazing addition to the CJFE team. Her hard work, attention to detail and general positivity have all been a huge asset for us this summer, and we are sad to see her leave. On behalf of the entire CJFE/IFEX team, we are so pleased to have had the chance to work with Diane, and wish her all the best in what’s to come.

  • Intern farewell: Q&A with Stephanie Schoenhoff

Last week marked the end of Stephanie Schoenhoff’s academic internship with CJFE. It’s hard to believe it was only two months that she was here, as she fit right in from her very first day in the office. Steph’s insight, positive attitude, and desire to ask every question imaginable, were amazing assets to both her work and everyone in the office. Although sad to see her go, we wish Steph all the best and can’t wait to see what she gets up to next!

As usual, our intern exit interviews are public – here are Steph’s final thoughts on her time with CJFE:
