Today, OpenMedia released a new online video turning the crowdsourced data on what Canadians want in a privacy plan into a clear path forward to address Canada’s privacy deficit. Based on input from over 125,000 Canadians, the video encourages action on three key priorities for Parliament to strengthen Canada’s privacy safeguards:
- 1. Require a warrant to spy on Canadians’ personal lives
- 2. End mass surveillance programs by government agencies
- 3. Embrace accountability for Canada’s spy agencies
The recommendations arrive at a time when the privacy of Canadians is more vulnerable than ever, with dangerous legislation like Bill C-51 recklessly threatening our privacy and free expression rights. Canadians must continue to defend and protect their constitutional rights and freedoms by standing up against Bill C-51 and sending a positive message to Ottawa leaders about strengthening our privacy.
