One tackles the thorny issue of a journalist's rights to protect confidential sources, and the second looks at the increasing dangers faced by journalists in the world's war zones.

CJFE protests harassment of Tunisian journalists
CJFE joins with other members of the Tunisia monitoring group (TMG) in calling on the Tunisian government to stop harassing Lotfi Hajji, President of the small independent Tunisian Journalists' Syndicate (SJT).
In the few days before and after this month's World Press Freedom Day, Hajji was summonsed by police, detained, had his books confiscated at Tunis airport, and was threatened with prosecution after the authorities found out that he planned to publish the syndicate's own report on Tunisian media repression.

Nobel Laureate to speak at Press Freedom Awards
Canada's leading corporate executives and journalists join Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) at a gala dinner tonight to honour freedom of expression both here and abroad. Dr. John Polanyi, Nobel Laureate, will deliver a keynote speech entitled "A Scientist on Freedom". Master of Ceremonies is Alison Smith and prominent guests include Carol Off, Lloyd Robertson, Knowlton Nash, Tom Walkom, John Fraser, Janice Stein, Lisa Laflamme, Jan Wong, Andy Barrie and Richard Gwyn.

Vietnam Blocks Toronto-based Free Speech Website
Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE), the manager of one of the world's pre-eminent websites on free expression, has discovered that its site is being blocked by the government of Vietnam.
CJFE made the announcement on the occasion of May 3, World Press Freedom Day. "While much of the world is celebrating the importance of free expression, Internet users in Vietnam can't find out what's going on outside their borders because of government filtering," says CJFE Chair Arnold Amber.

Alexandre Trudeau joins CJFE for screening of "Embedded in Baghdad
Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) presents "Embedded in Baghdad", Alexandre Trudeau's powerful documentary about his experience living with an Iraqi family during the 2003 war on Iraq. Following the screening, CBC journalist Wendy Mesley joins Alexandre Trudeau onstage for a rare discussion about his war-time experiences in Iraq, and about the changes in Iraq he has seen since the making of the film. Mr. Trudeau recently returned to Canada after an extended visit to the Middle East this winter.
It was a year ago this month that US forces invaded Iraq.

Censoring the Internet: How the digital revolution is being curbed
Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) and World Press Photo 04 are presenting a panel of Internet experts on October 13 to discuss how the Internet is being policed and the impact this has on freedom of expression.
Come and hear what the three experts think about policing the net. Are free market rules the only regulation, or does censorship of the Web take place in secret? Should Internet Service Providers be responsible for censoring child pornography? What if this impedes criminal investigations?
