Request for Proposals: Digital Communications Strategy Consultant

About this project: CJFE is seeking proposals for a consultant to help us with a 5-month project to create a digital communications strategic plan. We’re looking to partner with an experienced digital communications expert to help us create a strategy to make our communications, audience engagement, and free expression advocacy as effective as possible, and aid us in our overarching goal of becoming the go-to resource for free expression in Canada. Our goals: • To find the most effective ways for showcasing our growing volume of content • To increase the impact of our advocacy and awareness initiatives • To grow and better engage our audience • To maximize the impact and effectiveness of our small (but mighty) team of staff and volunteers • To become the go-to free expression resource in Canada • To ensure we are taking advantage of the latest technology and social networking developments that will help us to do all of the above What we are looking for: • A digital communications expert to help create CJFE’s digital communications strategic plan. This will include:      o Facilitating meetings with CJFE stakeholders to gather feedback on the organization’s digital presence      o Helping to define our audiences, communications objectives and goals      o Developing a strategy for improving the processes and outputs for CJFE’s digital communications activities • The consultant must be able to attend occasional meetings at the CJFE office in Toronto, Ontario. What kind of experience you should have: • History and a proven track record of successfully managing projects of similar size and scope • Experience in the non-profit world • Experience developing digital information strategies that bring together the world of news media, social technology, and human rights campaigning Timeframe • Work on this project will begin immediately, and will be completed by June 30, 2014   Proposal submission • Interested consultants should submit a short proposal with an explanation of how they can help develop a strategy that will fulfill CJFE’s goals, as well as a CV with references, any relevant qualifications and experience, and details of similar work performed to Laura Tribe, CJFE Online Editor and National Programs Coordinator at [email protected] • The total value of this contract should not exceed $5,000. • Based on our preliminary project outline, we estimate this consultancy to take between 35-55 hours of the consultant’s time. • Proposals must be submitted no later than Sunday, February 2, 2014.

Email newsletter Each month CJFE sends out a newsletter to our members and supporters highlighting our previous activities and outlining what is coming up next month. The CJFE website serves as the hub for information on all of CJFE’s programs and activities, as well as a resource for information on major free expression issues. Last year the organization focused on ensuring that our content better reflects our ongoing activities, and saw an increase in web traffic of over 70% from the previous year.
