Cross-Canada Call for Volunteers: CJFE Needs Regional Free Expression Monitors!

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Are you concerned about the state of free expression in Canada?

Can you offer a distinct and informed perspective on a specific region of the country?

Are you interested in keeping track of free expression issues as they relate to specific Canadian regions?

CJFE’s Regional Monitor position could be the role for you!

At CJFE, we are dedicated to observing and reporting on the varying conditions of free expression within different parts of Canada. However, we recognize that we can’t catch everything from our Toronto office, and need your local eyes and ears to help us stay on top of the key issues from coast to coast.

As part of our goal to actively pursue and represent free expression stories from all corners of Canada without missing a beat, we are inviting supporters of our cause to volunteer as “Regional Monitor” for any one of six major regions.

The Regional Monitor will track free expression news in the area of their interest and expertise on an ongoing basis throughout the year. He or she will report to CJFE with short summaries and related links to the most pressing and regionally specific stories. CJFE will subsequently incorporate this coverage into different projects of ours, such as website alerts, features, and the “Cross-Canada Reports” section of our annual Review of Free Expression in Canada magazine. You may also have the opportunity to write content for CJFE’s website about the state of free expression in your region.

The regions to keep an eye on are:
The North: Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Yukon, and the northernmost stretches of all Canadian provinces
The West: British Columbia and Alberta
The Prairies: Saskatchewan and Manitoba
The East: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, and Prince Edward Island

If you are interested in monitoring any one or part of one of these regions for free expression news coverage, or for additional information, email us at [email protected], or fill out our volunteer form and mention the "Regional Monitor" position.
