CJFE condemns Israeli plans to close Al Jazeera
CJFE condemns the government of Israel’s plans to revoke media credentials from Al Jazeera journalists, close the network’s office in Jerusalem, and pull broadcasts from local cable and satellite providers. The move is an unacceptable assault on press freedom in Israel and an implicit threat against any critic of government policy.

Call for Nominations: Code of Silence 2017
The Canadian Association of Journalists, the Centre for Free Expression, News Media Canada and the Canadian Journalists for Free Expression are inviting nominations for the Code of Silence Award for outstanding achievement in government secrecy. The award will be given annually in each of four categories -- federal, provincial, municipal and police services – starting this fall.

CJFE condemns MP's denouncement of media as 'fake news'
CJFE condemns Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke Member of Parliament (MP) Cheryl Gallant’s use of the terms ‘fake news,’ ‘elite-stream media’ and ‘media-splaining’ to denounce Canadian media in a July 10 video posted on Facebook. In the video, she hosts a “news” broadcast for a fictional network Gallant Night News (GNN), claiming the broadcast is “live from Parliament.” The graphics and screen text are obviously intended as a parody of the US-based CNN.

CJFE partners with SurfEasy to distribute 200 VPN licences to Journalists in Distress
Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) is proud to partner with SurfEasy to help journalists avoid surveillance and potential persecution under repressive regimes. 200 Virtual Private Network (VPN) licenses will be provided for free to journalists around the world who contact or apply to CJFE’s Journalists in Distress Program, which provides humanitarian assistance and resources to journalists around the world whose lives and well-being are threatened because of their work.
