What an incredible evening! On behalf of all of us here at CJFE, thank you to everyone who made this year’s Gala an unforgettable night! The stories of our award winners – Kathy Gannon, Oleksiy Matsuka, and the Native Women’s Association of Canada – were truly inspiring. The poignant videos, graphics, and brilliant photos from Anja Niedringhaus shone a spotlight on the continued need to defend and protect free expression in Canada and abroad. Kathy Gannon highlighted this so well, emphasizing how important organizations like CJFE are to combating government inaction: “They are the antidote to indifference.” There were many more wonderful moments last night, all captured through amazing photos and our live blog. We also invite you to read Mohamed Fahmy’s full letter to the Gala attendees and the details of CJFE’s new Bob Carty Free Expression Fellowship, available here. The Gala and all of CJFE's work would not be possible without our sponsors. Thank you to our evening sponsor Scotiabank, who supported this amazing event for the eighth year in a row! Heartfelt thanks also go out to our reception sponsor CTV; platinum sponsor CBC News; travel sponsors Friends of Roy Bennett and the University of Kings College; publication sponsor Aon; diamond sponsor Al Jazeera; photo exhibit sponsors Canon, AP, and the Toronto Star; and gold sponsor Sun Life Financial. Your support has been incomparable. And we are so grateful to all of our sponsors at every other level, which have now become too numerous to list here! Thanks also to our superb emcees, CBC’s Suhana Meharchand and CTV’s Marci Ien, for being incredibly dynamic and entertaining onstage. Finally, thank you to everyone who contributed by donating, joining as a member, or purchasing one of Anja's brilliant photos. All of these funds go directly to CJFE's work advocating for free expression and helping journalists in distress. We hope your involvement with CJFE continues beyond the Gala. Here’s how:
