CJFE Looking for a Program Manager
October 3 -- Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) has an immediate opening for a Program Manager.
Responsibilities and Duties
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Program Manager is responsible for:
1. Managing the CJFE Press Freedom Awards:
* Liaison with Banquet Committee, sponsors and others in securing funding for, and production of, awards show banquet;
* Co-ordinate selection of award candidates and collection of award submissions;
* Work with public-relations consultant to publicize the event and ensure media coverage of the banquet.
2. Developing and Implementing CJFE Media Building and Training Programs. Working in co-operation with the Director of Development, the Program Manager will be involved in:
*
Research;
* Proposal writing;
* Financial management of projects;
* Occasional monitoring travel;
* Maintenance and develop relations with donors;
*
Liaison with overseas project partners.
3. Co-ordinating Membership Affairs/Development
*
Manage membership dues collection and soliciting of donations;
* Plan awareness-raising/fundraising events;
* Communications with members, and outreach to potential new members
* Editorial production and oversight of the three-times-a-year CJFE Reporter and the monthly e-bulletin'
*
Increase volunteer participation in CJFE program.
4. Managing CJFE Journalist in Distress Fund
*
Identify and propose appropriate recipients for JID Fund.
5. Helping Establish CJFE Issues Policies, Raising CJFE Profile, Researching Canadian Issues
* Assist staff and Board in drafting formal policy on freedom-of-expression issues in Canada;
* Raise the profile of CJFE in Canada and abroad through events, seminars, publicity campaigns, and so on;
*
Study and recommend official stances on freedom-of-expression areas of concern to Canadians.
6. General Office Administration as Needed
Qualifications
*
University degree or equivalent;
*
Excellent communications skills in English; French or Spanish an asset;
*
Minimum two years experience in international affairs with overseas work experience an asset;
*
Experience in program development and project management, including proposal writing and financial management;
*
Experience in resource development and public-event co-ordination;
*
Experience working with volunteers;
*
Experience with Internet Communications Technologies
*
Understanding of human rights, freedom of expression and democratic development issues.
Terms and Conditions
This is a permanent full-time position, subject to a three-month probationary period, renewable for another three months
Salary $40,000-plus range with excellent benefits
